Paying for Treatment
Understanding what costs to expect before starting treatment can help you manage the financial impact of cancer in the most effective way possible.
Whether you have private health insurance, government insurance (such as Medicare or Medicaid), or no insurance, it is important for you to talk openly with your health care team soon after diagnosis about the costs of your care. This may include medical costs — such as the price of a specific drug.
Out-of-pocket expenses can quickly add up and affect your family budget. These costs are also the reason some people don’t follow or complete their cancer treatment plan. However, not following your treatment plan for any reason could put your health at risk and lead to even higher health care costs in the future.
Regional Medical Oncology Center has experienced Billing Specialists available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to answer your billing questions. We also have Pre-certification Specialists available to assist with pre-authorizations for tests, scans, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and other services.
Patient Assistance Specialists are available to help our patients find outside financial support if they cannot fully pay for their treatment or prescription medications. There are resources available to patients who qualify for this assistance. Patients’ needs are personally assessed and our Patient Advocates will guide them through the process.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much will my treatment cost me?
You may be responsible for a certain percentage of what the insurance company deems as the “allowed amount” for a certain medication or service, as well as your co-payment for doctor visits, treatment, and adjustments on your medication. Some insurance companies may also charge you a co-payment for lab work. Co-payments are due at the time of service. If you have any specific questions regarding your insurance coverage, we encourage you to contact your insurance company.
What if my finances do not allow me to pay my bill in full?
We are sensitive to financial complications that sometimes occur during times of illness. Our knowledgeable billing specialists will work with you to make payment arrangements on your account if you are unable to pay in full. We also offer a monthly payment plan.
I don’t understand my bill.
Our billing specialists are available at Regional Medical Oncology Center to answer any questions from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. They can also be reached by phone during those hours at (252) 991-5261.
What if my insurance changes?
If your insurance coverage changes during the course of your treatment or at any time, we ask that you notify us immediately. This will save time when sending your claim to the insurance company(s). Always bring your current insurance card with you.
